Music and Art In Your Backyard

The Lyrical Masters

There are plenty of chiefs in this hiphop game. They are a dime a dozen, producing tracks in home-made studios, promoting samples on soundcloud, and performing in underground venues. This game has traditionally been played and dominated by men, with the exception of a few noteworthy women. In the last year, there seems to have been a resurgence of some serious bad girl confidence from women who spit like it's a calling. They are crafting masterful lyrics with powerful messages while setting an example for women in their community and all over the world; especially young women who have a limited selection of female role models to aspire to. I had the great fortune of tracking down two of these lyrical masters. Their stories are still being written but they are unique ones. These young women are testament to the fact that where ever you are in life and whatever obstacles that are thrown in your way, you should never give up on your dreams.
