Dawn Okoro's love of fashion and fashion editorial is evident in her art series. She uses the editorial style popularly used in fashion to express her experiences as a black woman. Particularly striking is her Crown and Glory series where she combats the negative stereotypes attributed to black women and their hair. By using the editorial style, she creates a space in fashion where black women can exist, be accepted, and celebrated.
"I try to position the models in my art in a way that evokes emotion or projects an image, whether realistic or fantasy. I try to tell a story with my art in the same way that a photographer would in a fashion editorial."
